Active Refrigeration is the largest Industrial Refrigeration Company operating within New Zealand. The Group includes Thermal Solutions Limited (based in Silverdale), and currently comprises 14 branches and around 170 staff throughout New Zealand with a strong focus on sustainability and H&S. Along with an Industrial offering, we are heavily involved in Commercial Refrigeration Services and Air-Conditioning.

The group is accredited to ISO 14001 which encompasses sustainability and process to promote our commitment to a safe working culture and working practice to consider the environment in the processes and services we undertake.

The role we seek is that of a National Sustainability/Health and Safety Lead. This National role will be based in our Silverdale Thermal Solutions Limited premises, functioning also as branch representative/coordinator, and will report to the companies’ Christchurch-based Founding Directors. The successful applicant will continue the maintenance and continual improvement of our Health and Safety and ISO 14001 systems with direct reports from branch coordinators throughout the business units. With innovation at the heart of Active Refrigeration, the National Lead will also be expected to identify, present and develop chosen strategies for compliance and innovation in this area of the business as we seek to benchmark leadership in our craft.

You will have experience producing forward thinking programs and initiatives that engage and inspire teams to proactively look after themselves and each other each and every day.


  • Promote and support a strong Health & Safety culture

  • Ensuring continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Security & Environment performance throughout the business

  • Liaison with Management, Branch Health and Safety Representatives, Contractors and Clients

  • Regular Monitoring Effective Application of H&S Policy, ISO 14001 Procedures and Perform Audits

  • Consult with Staff, Identify Opportunity and Provide Solutions to Problems

We expect you will have:

  • Experience with a Company that Has a Mature Health and Safety and Environmental Program

  • 5+ years Health, Safety and Wellness experience

  • A formal health, safety or wellness qualification or certification

  • Managerial and Coaching Experience

  • Strong Communication Skills and Experience with Client/ Sub-contractor Interaction

  • Courage, Energy, Intelligence and Innovation

  • Experience/Association in the Refrigeration and/or Air-Conditioning Industry would be Beneficial
